Sri
Narasimha-caturdasi
On May 4th, the asrama devotees and congregation
celebrated the divine appearance day of Sri Narasimhadeva
with great enthusiasm.
In the morning the devotees sang the Dasavatara-stotram
of Jayadeva Gosvami which was followed by a class
given by Srila Visnu Maharaja and Bhakti Vijnana
Giri Maharaja. Srila Visnu Maharaja spoke from the
recent Krsna Talk article by Srila Narasingha Maharaja,
‘The Worship of Lord Narasimha,’ explaining
why the devotees of Sri Sri Radha Krsna worship
Lord Narasimha. Giri Maharaja explained how Prahlada
became a devotee of the Lord according to Srila
Sridhara Maharaja and Sanatana Gosvami’s Hari
Bhakti-vilasa.
Later, at 5:00 pm the devotees gathered at the temple
of Lord Yoga-Narasimha to witness the abhiseka
ceremony. Firstly
Srila Narasimha Maharaja bathed Sri Vira-Narasimha
with panca-gavya, pancamrta and other auspicious
items. Maharaja then proceeded to bathe the main
Deity of Yoga-Narasimha with water to remove the
sandalwood that had been applied to His body during
Candana-yatra.
The
Lord was also bathed with 25 litres of milk and
water from the Kaveri, Ganga and other holy rivers.
After the abhiseka ended, the pujaris
rubbed scented oil on the Lord’s body and
decorated him profusely in flower garlands.
The doors were opened for darsana and Srila
Narasingha Maharaja led the kirtana as Srila
Visnu Maharaja offered the maha-arati to
Lord Narasimha.
All the devotees and guests then honored Narasimha’s
maha-prasadam.

Goshala Renovations
March and April have seen a major renovation at Govindaji
Gardens Goshala. This is now the most ecstatic looking
goshala in India, and possibly the world. Not to mention
that the goshala is now completely mosquito and fly
proof. The renovations which included full painting
inside and out, brass bells for all the cows and calves,
two large outside summer sheds, uniforms for the village
workers, a compound wall, plastering, and a new gate
were all made possible by the generous donations from
Gour Govinda Prabhu, a disciple of Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta
Swami Prabhupada, who is a real cow lover at heart.
The goshala turned out so nice and the twenty-two
cows and calves look so beautiful that this sparked
an idea to develop a completely separate website for
promoting the concept of cow protection. The website
also turned out really great due to the devoted efforts
of Sripad Vishnu Maharaja and can be viewed at WWWW.MOTHERCOW.ORG
But it doesn't stop there. Through the MOTHERCOW.ORG
website and through the local media here in India
we are mounting a campaign to increase peoples awareness
of the necessity for cow protection not only by the
Vaishnavas but by all human beings.
We
have also decided to set our goal at increasing our
present facilities until we have over 100 cows.
To this end the goshala is now selling 140 liters
of milk every day to sweet shops in Mysore - some
of which is delivered to individual homes in half
liter and one liter packets as "Ashram Milk".
Cows are an important part of Brahminical culture
and we encourage the devotees world wide to support
goshala projects in whatever way they can.

Sri Gaura Purnima Festival
Saturday, the 6th of March saw the devotees and congregation
members of Sri Narasingha Caitanya Matha observing
the divine 518th appearance of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu.
Early in the morning Srila Narasingha Maharaja spoke
on the appearance of Mahaprabhu and the contribution
of Srila Thakura Bhaktivinoda in re-discovering the
Yogapitha in Mayapura. He also elaborated on the many
obstacles that the Thakura had to face in order to
establish Mayapura as the actual birthplace of Lord
Caitanya and how Srila Bhaktisiddhanta later built
the adbhuta-mandira as predicted by Sri Nityananda
Prabhu Himself.
At 4:00 pm a nagesvaram band played for the pleasure
of the Deities and at 5:00 pm the abhiseka
of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu began. Srila Narasingha
Maharaja led the devotees in kirtana as Bhakti
Srirupa Madhava Maharaja performed the abhiseka
assisted by Bhakti Vijnana Giri Maharaja.
After the abbhiseka was over, the Deity was
brought from the altar and placed in a palki
and taken on procession around the temple compound
accompanied by sankirtana.
After five rounds, the Lord was brought back to the
altar where more than seventy preparations were brought
to be offered to Him. After the bhoga-offering, Srila
Visnu Maharaja performed the sandhya-arati
to Sri Sri Gaura-Radha-Madhava.
Over 100 guests and devotees came to take darsana
of the Deities and honor Their mahaprasadam.
Salagrama Hara
On the auspicious morning of Gaura Purnima, Sri Yoga-Narasimha
was presented with a beautiful "Salagrama hara"
(necklace). The necklace consists of 54 Salagramas,
each fixed in silver and linked together. The Salagrama
hara was first bathed with sacred Kaveri water and
rubbed with sandalwood oil before adorning the Lord.

The day before Gaura Purnima, Bhakti Ananda Avadhuta
Maharaja, Bhakti Vijnana Giri Maharaja and Dhira-lalita
Mataji completed the decoration of Srila Prabhupada's
puspa-samadhi. The samadhi is now brightly adorned
with paintings of devotees performing sankirtana on
all four sides. Members of the Sri, Madhva and even
Sankara sampradayas are also shown participating,
representing the all-encompassing nature of Mahaprabhu's
sankirtana.
